#42 - Focus on the Good

In a world where everyone seems to be focused on all the bad that is happening, directing your attention to the good is a powerful tool you can use to take ownership of your life.

Oftentimes, many things are working against you. Examples could be:

Negativity in your work and home environment.

A friend or partner’s negativity rubs off on you.

Your social media feed consistently causes you to think negative thoughts about yourself.

Watching the news consistently makes you feel unhappy or angry.

The list goes on and on...

To top all of this off, your brain has a negativity bias!

What that means is that at any given moment, your brain is looking out for all the things that could be problems.

It comes comes from our evolutionary hardwiring to constantly be on edge, looking for threats, so that we could improve our chances of survival.

But nowadays, we don’t have saber toothed tigers hunting us anymore.

Despite this, our brains are still constantly looking out for the negative.

When you’re constantly focused on the negative, guess what happens...

NEGATIVITY COMPOUNDS AND YOU CREATE MORE NEGATIVITY IN YOUR LIFE.

Which is why, given all of our predispositions to focus on the bad, it’s extremely important to focus on the good.

When you focus on the POSITIVE,  THE POSITIVITY COMPOUNDS AND YOU CREATE MORE GOODNESS INTO YOUR LIFE.

So, instead of focusing on the way that person is annoying you, focus on something about them that you love.

Train your brain, every day, to start focusing on the positive.

You might ask, why should I invest the energy to do this? Why should I invest energy to make a change?

For starters, it’s not only you who will benefit from doing this. All the people around you will benefit. By carrying a more positive energy, you become more capable of living with a full heart.

Positivity fuels a state of love, and when you’re full of love, you feel great. Furthermore, when you’re full of love, the people AROUND you also get to enjoy your state of love. Genuine love makes everyone around you feel better.

Take a step today to focus on the positive as much as you can.

Do it for yourself, and your own happiness. Do it for the people you love.

Happy New Year,

Chip
